The One-Eyed Jack and the Suicide King: personifications of the city of Las Vegas-its history, mystery, mystical power, and heart . . . When the Suicide King vanishes-possibly killed-in the middle of a magic-rights turf war started by the avatars of Los Angeles, a notorious fictional assassin, and the mutilated ghost of Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, the King's partner, the One-Eyed Jack, must seek the aid of a bizarre band of legendary and undead allies: the ghosts of Doc Holliday and John Henry the steel-driving man; the echoes of several imaginary super spies, decades displaced in time; and a vampire named Tribute, who bears a striking resemblance to a certain long-lost icon of popular music. All stories are true, but some stories are truer than others.

Mahmutefendic submits his novel with the syntagm "Diabolic Comedy in the Form of an Absolute Novel". The theme of the novel is the fate of two figures in the space of 5 centuries through five different reincarnations. The last story is the story of the main character Jack Popayy. Jack is a fisherman. Jednook. She has a wife, Olivia, and incredibly many children. They call him Jack Fuck, because he considers himself the greatest lover. Jack Popay, and it's great associative with respect to the wife's name: Ollivia de Havilend. He is simply the largest among the largest, and the sea is there to be just a vast mood for male heroism and eroticism. Mahmutefendi's magic does not "flirt" with any of them, nor with what kind of metaphysics, it is all from blood and flesh, does not flee from animal life, but also does not avoid "bluffing" with the cosmos. Jack is a fisherman at sea, in the utter house. It is all in tension to catch, satisfy, succeed, to prove. His unison speaks of his pronounced lifestyle. Jack Pr (Fuck) is himself his own Cyclops Polifem himself and his Odyssey himself. And Mahmutefendic's strenuous syntax is wrinkled in front of his eyes like the sea waves cut down by Jack's oars. That is why this novel, which is a combination of parody of various romanesque types (novel character, novel of the stream of human consciousness, novel of character, novel monologue-sociative content and rhythm) first read those who are persistent and who are reading God's gift.

This book is to share and inform real-life experiences of a veterinary practitioner. I tell real stories of my pre-veterinary and veterinary career in the Smokey Mountains / Appalachian / East Tennessee area. Maybe too graphic for some, it is the way it has been for me as I pursued this career. I hope and intend to share heartwarming and interesting stories of people and animals-domestic and exotic. I now know the importance of the animal kingdom to us. It is simply ecological history! Our interaction with them and theirs to us can be humorous, loving, sad, traumatic, and educational-well, you know what I mean! Some of these stories are not only recording what I have experienced, but recording the history of people and animals of this area that may be lost otherwise, i.e., stories that involve coon hunting, family survival dependent on their animals, weird predicaments animals get themselves into, weird predicaments we get into treating them medically and surgically. There are even stories which would be lost if I didn't get it down on paper, like dumping outhouses in the middle of town on Halloween as good mischievous fun, murder stories deep in the mountains, to surfing on a pig's back! Snakes, coatimundis, black panthers, lemurs, cockatoos, turtles, ferrets, deer, goats, puppies, kittens, calves, foals, piglets, kids (goat and human!), raccoons, possums, tigers, potbelly pigs, flying squirrel orphans, blind dogs, deaf dogs, three-legged cats, mean mares, killer cows, spoiled iguanas, sick fish, house fire victims, abused animals, orphans-let's breathe. How funny! This menagerie of a living circus on planet earth is so abundant that it is impossible to get it down on paper or cyber. However, this is my attempt to tell you as much as I can about my veterinary experiences-funny or sad! I intend for this to be entertaining and hopefully informative, too. Through joy, pain, and suffering we learn, and we learn more and more in our interaction with our animal cousins how important we are to each other. live to learn-learn to live. LOVE TO LEARN- LEARN TO LOVE

Tommy was standing there without a drink along that last bit of bar. End of the line, Lee thought, where else would she find him? She stopped in front of him, almost as tall as him in her pumps, knowing full well that everybody in the joint was watching her and not giving one thin damn. She could only stand there a moment though, and then she had to touch him; she put her arms around his neck and her cheek next to his, just to feel him after all this time, to smell him after all these years. And then he put those hams of his around her and they stayed like that, not saying anything, for maybe a minute. Finally she put her lips against his neck and then on his mouth and she stepped back to look at him again. "Oh, you goddamn mick," she said. "Where you been?" At 35, Tommy Cochrane is a washed-up boxer who missed out on a shot at the heavyweight title and has to hang up his gloves for good when he's diagnosed with an aneurysm. His best friend and former sparring partner, T-Bone Pike, isn't in great shape either as the two of them head to Toronto on a quest for the $5,000 Tommy desperately needs to buy back his grandfather's farm. In the big city, Tommy and T-Bone encounter an intriguing cast of characters operating on the questionable side of the tracks. Fat Ollie runs the weekly poker game on Queen Street; Buzz Murdoch gives Tommy a job as a doorman at the Bamboo club; Herm Bell is a sharp kid on a run of luck; and Tony Broad is a small-time hood with big-time ambitions and a seedy sidekick named Billy Callahan. There's also Lee Charles, a sharp, cynical, smart-mouthed torch singer, who happens to be Tommy's ex-girlfriend. In the tradition of James Ellroy, Brad Smith has readers instantly embroiled in a quick-paced plot that involves guns and money, good guys and bad guys, double and triple crosses, and an exciting, suspenseful payoff. An unerring tradition of '50s Ontario, rich in local colour and with the kind of crackling dialogue that drives an Elmore Leonard novel, One-Eyed Jacks is a great read that opens up the underbelly of Toronto the Good.
